What I imagine when I say "Assorted Bridesmaid Dresses" generally lays out something like the following:
Nothing old fashioned here, but sweet styles/colors/arrangements.
How you feel about black dresses, ladies? This is the default back-up plan. It would be simple and lovely and go FAB with peacock feathers.
Also loving the neutral/cream situation. Could really rock it, I'm sure. Seriously, how do you feel about neutral pallettes? Some people get a wee washed out, right?
More green. Love the one to the right (my right) of the bride. Not the color, but the little flower and the bust. SO CUTE. (But hey, what is with the pheasant hunt carcass in Bridey's hand?).
More formal than necessary, and pinky/mauve/rose/etc, but how cute? (Hate the gown, by the way).
All these blues are AWESOME.
No on pink, yes on the intermingling of styles. Nicely done.
Did you know that mustaches on sticks were a popular wedding gag thing last year? Why? Who started that? It was cute at the first three weddings, and that's about it. (Of course I plan to have dress up options in the photobooth section of the wedding, so there you go).
All in all, well executed, simple, caszh. LOVE LOVE LOVE the simplicity and the cut of the bridal gown. Dang.
I totally have more, but internet was down at home, and I'm surreptitiously blogging this from work with saved photos in the post that I started a million days ago, so that's it for now.
Oh, except to tell you that I bought a wedding dress. Thanks be to Jessica for helping me through the process! I kind of made it up from a dress on display in a shop and they are making it for me and it's a gamble as to how it will turn out, but I'm confident it's going to be fabulous. For the record I've only tried on one actual dress, and it was a size 6 and so I use the term "tried on" VERY loosely here. I will be the happiest bird on the planet if this dress is as lovely as I think it's going to be. Check mark one on the million-entry To Do list.

Is your "Ha Ha" after the "Maidens" label on this post supposed to suggest that just because I have popped out a child I am no longer pure and innocent?!?!? Bite your tongue!
ReplyDeleteAnd look at all those parasol rip-off artists!
But seriously, I LOVE the blue dresses (I have to admit I've been envisioning a royal blue bridal party--very peacock-alicious). I am also totally down for green or black or any other colors you so wish (so long as they are actual colors, and not neutrals--I look horrendous in neutral so please don't do that to me). :-)
I second Jojo - please no neutral. Deep, dark colors work well for me, personally.
ReplyDeleteI also really really love the dark blue. I love black but the problem is that black can often look very formal and might be too formal for an outside, rustic wedding. However, the style of the dress (and the material of the dress) can really offset the heaviness of the color, like in the pic of the blue dresses.
I think the bridesmaids dresses have to compliment the wedding gown in terms of the level of formality (and I'd love to see a pic of your dress! Yay for finding something you love!!). Once you know the color scheme you want to work with, then style is something you can play with.
I love the idea of mixing patterns and colors, but I think we have to be careful so that the peacock theme/feathers can still work and all of the bridesmaids dressings are complimenting the bride's dress, which has to be the focus of the day... !! Yay! So exciting!!!
I just have to say that I also love the blues, gorgeous and I think it would be gorgeous with your dress!
ReplyDeleteWaiting to hear from you on the swatch and what it looks like, I so hope it is as amazing as we imagined!!
Thanks so much for including me in the dress shopping, I really enjoyed it! I feel like I was present for the birth of your baby! Hopefully it's a pretty one!! HEHE!
I do love the blue dress photo here, it's lovely.
ReplyDeleteAll right girls. Blue it is! Royal blues, deep purples, if it looks good next to a peacock feather (doesn't have to match, just has to not clash), it's a go. Hell, if some of you want royally blue and some want green, I'm down with that. Mix it up. Whatever.
I will send each of you a swatch of the tartan fabric and a feather. I really don't care about the style. I guess if going for a vintage feel, think ruffles and lace more than 50's cocktail, but really if I go for the larger swankier place, it won't need to be so depression era ish and wear whatever.
I won't have a pic of my dress for at least a month, but can show you the swatch of white with blue and green colored border by next week.
This is getting exciting, ya? YA!!!
(by the way, Cookie, are you reading? Can we dye your cute dress blue?)
(Also, my mom, who I think reads this, but I'm not sure, has asked what color she is supposed to wear... and I have no idea how to answer that. Jojo, you are the most schooled in these matters, I believe...help me).
Yay for blue dresses! Or blue and/or green and/or purple. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteAs for what mama is to wear--I recall reading that the MOB (Mother of Bride) is traditionally supposed to wears off-white, but my inclination was to find something for my mom that blended with the bridal party in color and style, but did not match. My mom wore a lovely blue dress. Blue was not one of my wedding colors, but I thought it was a nice compliment to the eggplant bridesmaid's dresses. I think nordstrom.com has a really nice array of MOB dresses under the "wedding shop" section of their website.
Hullo! I'm here!
ReplyDeleteI totally have no reservations about dyeing my dress, but I am not sure that the different fabrics will lend themselves to a smooth and satisfactory dyeing experience. My Colorado-parents are much more well-versed in the ways of dyeing, however, so when I am with the dress and privy to its makeup I will seek their expertise in the matter. Or, you know, just google it.
That aside, how cute are you, sending out swatches and feathers. I want to give you the biggest hug in the world.
Wow, I'm so late to this party, it's ricick. just wanted to peep up and say that this is exactly what I did for mine. I sent out actual paint chips and a list of rules (no short sleeves, no mini skirts) and let everyone find their own dress. result: happy, beautiful women all around, none of whom were stuck with an ugly dress they paid $200 to hate. yours are going to look awesome.
